Even though at the outset, it was expected to be an uphill battle. Vietnam was regarded as highly vulnerable, given its long border and extensive trade with China, densely populated urban areas, and limited healthcare infrastructure. But Vietnam’s cost-effective containment strategy resulted in only 352 confirmed cases and no deaths in a population of almost 100 million people.

Thus to date, no self-isolation is required, and all regulations for SARS-CoV-2 testing required before entering will be temporarily suspended.

Medical and Vaccination Requirements needed when entering Vietnam

COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for travel to all regions, both foreign and domestic. Check with your local Passport Health clinic if immunization is offered in your area.

Travelers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites. Share your itinerary with a travel medicine specialist to see if there are other steps you can take to prevent malaria, including taking prescription medicine. Antimalarials are highly recommended when visiting rural areas. Japanese encephalitis vaccination is recommended for many travelers going to Vietnam. The mosquito-borne virus is potentially deadly and poses a risk to all travelers.

While we take all the precautions we can to make sure your belongings are safe, we are traveling to some exciting destinations that are sometimes home to some pretty skilled thieves. Travel insurance is a must and a lockable bag or money belt will always help too.
