Vietnam Attracts More Than 14.1 Million International Visitors in 10 Months of 2024
Vietnam has welcomed over 14.1 million international tourists in the first ten months of 2024, marking a significant 41.3% increase compared to the previous year, according to a recent report from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
This surge in visitors can be attributed to favorable visa policies, enhanced tourism promotion efforts, and Vietnam’s success in receiving several prestigious international tourism awards. In October 2024 alone, international arrivals reached 1.42 million, a slight rise from September’s 1.3 million and a notable 27.6% increase year on year.
The numbers are projected to continue rising, particularly during the peak tourism season, which typically runs from October to March, attracting many travelers from European countries. In terms of economic impact, tourism revenues for the first ten months reached 690 trillion VND (approximately 27.18 billion USD).
Of the total international arrivals, nearly 12 million traveled by air, accounting for 84.8% of the overall figure and reflecting a year-on-year increase of 36.9%. Meanwhile, almost 2 million entered Vietnam overland, representing a 13.9% rise.
Asian markets have played a dominant role, contributing nearly 80% of total arrivals. The Republic of Korea remained the largest source, sending 3.7 million visitors (26.4%), followed by China with 3.0 million (21.3%). Other notable sources included Taiwan, the United States, Japan, Australia, India, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Most regions experienced growth, with significant increases from China (up 130.4%), the Republic of Korea (up 28.5%), Japan (up 24.8%), and Taiwan (up 59.4%). Thailand, however, saw a decline of 13.3%.
European markets also reported strong growth, including the UK (up 20.4%), France (up 30.5%), and Germany (up 23.6%). Italy exhibited the most remarkable increase at 54.5%, with Spain (up 23.3%), Russia (up 81.5%), Denmark (up 21.7%), Norway (up 16.2%), and Sweden (up 24.9%) also showing positive trends.
These gains have been supported by a unilateral visa exemption policy for stays of up to 45 days, implemented on August 15, 2023.
