To achieve the 2025 target, Vietnam is focusing on expanding into new markets, particularly India, and increasing direct international flight routes. Enhanced tourism promotion efforts are also in the pipeline to strengthen Vietnam’s global appeal.

In 2024, Vietnam welcomed 17.5 million international visitors, reaching 98% of its pre-pandemic figures from 2019. This recovery rate positions Vietnam ahead of regional competitors such as Thailand (88%) and Singapore (86%). The country now ranks third in Southeast Asia for international arrivals, surpassing Singapore’s 16.5 million visitors and trailing only Thailand (35 million) and Malaysia (24.5 million).

The positive trend continued into early 2025, with Vietnam recording 2.1 million foreign arrivals in January, an 18.5% increase from the previous month and a 36.9% rise compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.

A recent survey by travel platform Agoda highlights Vietnam’s growing attractiveness. Phu Quoc, in particular, emerged as a trending destination, with accommodation searches surging by 266% during Tet holiday.

While Vietnam’s tourism rebound is impressive, industry experts emphasize the need to remain competitive in the global travel market. Continued investment in infrastructure, streamlined visa policies, and active promotion efforts will be key to sustaining growth in the coming years.
