Siem Reap is one of the top 5 most attractive tourist destinations in the world

In a recent survey, Siem Reap made it into the top five trending travel destinations for 2023. This lovely city, which also the hometown of the 12th-century royal family of Angkor Thom, came in fourth on the list. Interestingly, among the top 10 trending destinations, three are in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), which shows global traveler interest in the region.

Considered the gem of Southeast Asia, Siem Reap has the world-famous Angkor Wat and other ancient and modern attractions.

Among Siem Reap’s top attractions, according to most travel websites, are the ancient relics of Angkor Wat, the world’s largest stone temple complex spread over an area of 152.6 hectares; the relics of other ancient sites of the Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm; the religious site of Banteay Srei, where detailed stone statues in the temple depict Cambodia’s Hindu past; and the relics of the walled city of Angkor Thom.

Angkor Archaeological Park is famous for the world’s largest monument of 160 hectares of religious sites, the Cambodia Landmine Museum, and the Angkor National Museum, among many other sites.

Siem Reap authorities are working to revive and restore the destination’s pre-Covid-19 glory by organizing various events and activities. The Deputy Governor said that developing Siem Reap tourism as a “quality, safe, and environmental tourist destination” requires effective implementation of the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master.
