Hoi An received the title of “National Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Mid-Autumn Festival”

Recently, Hoi An has just received the title of “National Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Mid-Autumn Festival” which draws a lot of attention to tourists everywhere!

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a significant and colorful traditional festival for Vietnamese people. On the full moon day of the eighth lunar month every year, people often organize special activities such as lion dances, lighting fireworks, making lanterns, and enjoying traditional dishes such as the moon cakes. In particular, the Mid-Autumn Festival also means an opportunity for generations of families to reunite and share joy and love.

Mid-Autumn Festival in Hoi An has the interference and acculturation between traditional indigenous culture and foreign culture due to its history as an international trading port, so it has many special values of its own. During that process, Hoi An people selected suitable quintessential and creative values and integrated them into unique features.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, all corners of Hoi An wear colorful lanterns in many shapes, and the Hoai River is adorned with wishing flowers. Crowds of people flocked to the streets, shops were decorated more sparklingly, and children were smiling around in beautiful clothes with colorful lanterns.

With those unique values, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism issued a decision on the list of national intangible cultural heritage. On the evening of September 28 (August 14 of the lunar calendar), a parade honoring heritage was held throughout the ancient streets with the participation of Mid-Autumn Festival mascots, which attracted many domestic and foreign tourists.
