Vietnam’s Che Ba Mau Voted As Asia’s Top 100 Desserts
Vietnam’s che ba mau (three-color sweet soup), a delightful bean and coconut milk dessert, was recognized as one of Asia’s top 100 desserts by TasteAtlas, securing the 82nd position.
The rankings were from 12,460 verified user ratings, collected out of 19,650 by mid-October.
According to TasteAtlas, che ba mau is a colorful dish, often green, yellow, and red, and is a popular dessert in Vietnam. Ingredients include tapioca pearls, lotus seeds, red beans, chestnuts, and jelly. The dessert is inseparable from coconut milk and is often garnished with bananas, crushed peanuts, or other toppings. It can be served both hot and cold.
Che Ba Mau is believed to take root from the Cantonese dessert named tong sui, which features ingredients like beans, fruits, nuts, or seeds boiled with sugar.
TasteAtlas also highlighted other Vietnamese treats: che bap, a sweet corn dessert; che ba ba, a coconut-based soup with sweet potato and cassava; and che dau den, a black bean dessert.
On the top of the list was Turkey’s Dondurma, renowned for its chewy texture and ability to resist melting, crafted from milk, sugar, Arabic gum, and orchid root flour. The following was Gaziantep Baklavası, a syrup-soaked pistachio pastry, and Indonesia’s Klepon, sweet rice balls filled with palm sugar.
